New! Correspondence with Journals Response to Critics Concerning Peer Review Michael Behe's correspondence with science journals about publishing articles/responses in reply to his critics. It's his eye opening response to critics that say if there was anything to the Intelligent Design position, their views would be presented in peer-reviewed Journals and the reason they're not is because they can't pass the tough peer-review process that weeds out flawed arguments or research methods challenging Darwinism.

Transitionals
At the higher level of evolutionary transition between basic morphological designs, gradualism has always been in trouble, though it remains the "official" position of most Western evolutionists. Smooth intermediates between Baupläne are almost impossible to construct, even in thought experiments; there is certainly no evidence for them in the fossil record (curious mosaics like Archaeopteryx do not count).
S.J. Gould & Niles Eldredge , Paleobiology 3:147, 1977.

Fish to Amphibian Transition Article presenting the arguments and evidence for transitional species between fish and amphibians.
Punctuated Equilibria (Gould, Eldridge, Stanley, Raup, etc.)
The extreme rarity of transitional forms is the trade secret of paleontology ... The history of most fossil species includes two features particularly inconsistent with gradualism: 1. Stasis. Most species exhibit no directional change during their tenure on earth. They appear in the fossil record looking much the same as when they disappear; morphological change is usually limited and directionless. 2. Sudden appearance. In any local area, a species does not arise gradually by the steady transformation of its ancestors; it appears all at once and 'fully formed.'"
S.J. Gould, Natural History 86:14 (1977).
The Gorbachev of Darwinism Article by Phillip Johnson on Gould. One of my favorites by Johnson.

ME THINKS IT IS LIKE A WEASEL:
Computer Algorithms, "Evolution" Simulations; Human Mind/Computer ComparisonsIntro. to No Free Lunch by William Dembski. America's Obsession With Design: A Reply to Pannenburg William Denbski. Contain's a response to the recent paper, "Evolution of Biological Information" in Nucleic Acids Research by Thomas Schneider who claims to have created CSI "from scratch" using an evolutionary algorithm and thus how mutation and natural selection creates specified complexity in biological systems. Dembski answers that the No Free Lunch theorms refute such a claim-- the CSI was "smuggled in" at the start of the programing process by the intelligent design of Schnider.

Self-Organization and Irreducibly Complex Systems: A Reply to Shanks and Joplin Michael Behe paper in Philosophy of Science 67 (March 2000)
Origin-of-Life Prize The Orgin of Life Foundation is offering a prize (over $1,000,000) to anyone who demonstrates how the origin of life (information, genes) occured by natural processes of course. As they put it:
"The Origin-of-Life Prize" ® is being offered to stimulate research into chaos, complexity, information, probability, and artificial life theories as they relate directly to biochemical and molecular biological reality. The Foundation wishes to encourage the pursuit of natural-process explanations and mechanisms of initial "gene" emergence within nature. The subject of interest is the genesis of primordial information itself rather than its physico-chemical matrix of retention and transmission.
Wish the new alchemists luck.
Alchemy, NK Boolean Style A review of Stuart Kauffman's At Home in the Universe: The Search for the Laws of Self Organization and Complexity by William Dembski.
The Fear of God A review by Philip Johnson of Paul Davies' The Fifth Miracle. Davies, like many physicists sees the obvious need for something beyond chance and necessity (natural laws) to explain the origin of life, information, and design in nature, but seems to have a phobia about reaching the logical conclusion to the evidence. Perhaps it's another case of the "2001 principle". I can't criticize too much as I understand what he is going through - I went through the same thing.

Yockey is an expert on information theory and has applied it to molecular Biology and concludes life could not have arisen by chance in a primordial soup (I highly recommend his Information Theory and Molecular Biology, Cambridge University Press, 1992). Yockey is an agnostic and I greatly admire his writing (he's very funny in his sarcastic way).

(Those who have taken Darwinism too seriously and/or too far)
It is absolutely safe to say that if you meet somebody who claims not to believe in evolution, that person is ignorant, stupid or insane (or wicked, but I'd rather not consider that). The heaviest blow that ever struck humanity was the coming of Christianity. Science and Design Article in First Things by William Dembski on the use of "design" inferences in science. Dembski looks at the philosophical and logical basis of making a design inference.
Intelligent Design A professor of physics at Hawaii tries to debunk intelligent design views. Not a good response, he doesn't get it at times, but is the best I've found so far of a response from a Materialist to intelligent design. Confuses (deliberately?) Intelligent Design with "Scientific Creationism," as if it were the latest offshoot of it or something. Materialists seem to be running on 19th Century fumes. Talk.origins.

Naturalism, Theism and the Scientific Enterprise Web site on the 1997 conference in Texas on "Naturalism, Theism and the Scientific Enterprise." Another conference in response to Phillip Johnson's Darwin on Trial book and the developing Intelligent Design theory debate it has helped generate. These seem to be getting bigger and bigger. 120 scientists and scholars took part in this one. Participants included Phil Johnson(theist) and Michael Ruse (nontheist) as is usual, as well as others debating and discussing whether science and scientists must work from at least a methodological Materialism (or out-right Materialist outlook) or if scientists can be theists and approach their scientific work from a theist (intelligent design) perspective. Contains the papers from the conference as well as abstracts. Also contains a Reflections from an Organizer article by professor Robert Koons of the University of Texas (Philosophy) summarizing the conclusions of the conference.

Darwinism: Science or Philosophy? A book of papers online compiled from the symposium entitled "Darwinism: Scientific Inference or Philosophical Preference?" in response to Darwin on Trial. Features Phillip Johnson, Michael Ruse, Robert Shapiro, Michael Behe, etc. debating each other over evolution as a "fact, fact, FACT!"(Michael Ruse--who later adopted Johnson's position) or inference based in part on Materialism (Johnson's position).
Molecular Machines: Experimental Evidence for the Design Inference Paper by Michael Behe on design evidences at the molecular level. This was written before his book, Darwin's Black Box. Gives a good overview of his main ideas for those who haven't read his book. Be sure to check out the related links on the same site with graphics and animations of what he's talking about (see link below).
Irreducible Complexity Michael Behe's thesis of irreducible complexity at the molecular level now has a web page at Access Research. Has graphics and even animations of what he's talking about (a must see!).
