November 6th - Control.seanet.com UNIX web server hard drive failure down for maintenance

Resolved

Final Update: The hard drive we purchased, failed during rebuilding and we had a new drive rebuilding overnight.  We were able restore the server and everything is functional as of 8AM this morning.  Mail has been spooled and will be delivered throughout the next few hours.

UPDATE 3 1:40PM: The disks are currently still undergoing a rebuild which will complete this evening.  This is necessary to protect customer data in lieu of a unexpected hard drive failure.  Once again, there is NO data loss and mail will be delivered once the server comes online.  We apologize for the downtime during business hours.  As stated previously, we were forced to take the server down when the hard drives failed earlier this morning.

UPDATE 2: We have installed the new hard drives and are in the process of rebuilding the file system.  While the server is powered down webmail and mail is not accessible.  Mail is being spooled and will be delivered when the server is online.

UPDATE:  At 10:30 the hard drive RAID has failed and will not boot the operating system.  We hoped to delay the downtime necessary to replace the drive, until after business hours.  We are taking the server down for a couple hours and replacing the hard drives.  This page will be updated throughout the process.

Starting last evening around 5pm the UNIX web server started to show symptoms of disk failure which were first observed November 3rd.   We are in the process of replacing the faulty drives and restoring the data.  There will likely be outages in the next two days while we troubleshoot further and complete the hardware repair.

November 3rd - DA web server is down and running file system check

Resolved

One of our UNIX web servers is currently undergoing a reboot and file system check.  This check is essential to prevent data loss and corruption and takes some time.  We expect the server to be up and operational by approximately 10AM.

Final Update 11AM - The scan took longer than initially expected because one of the hard drives was showing errors.  The scan completed and the server is up as of 10:55AM.  We thank you for your patience.

October 31st - Dialup/DSL Customers cannot access various sites

Resolved

Many of our dialup and DSL customers may not be able to access certain web pages.  This is likely due to Sprint blocking all traffic to and from one of our backbone providers Cogent.  You can use a free proxy to access web pages while this is occurring.  If you are dialing a 4002 or 0082 number, you can switch to our 9899 number suffix in the meantime.  Internet routing tables will update automatically, but it may take some time to propagate.

October 27th-28th 2008- Spam filter was not active

Resolved

Starting at about 8pm the 27th until 10am the 28th, all email bypassed the spam filter to be delivered.  There was a networking glitch in the Windows OS on the server, taking it out of the mail loop.  No need to send spam in that was delivered during this time, as it was not processed by the filter.  All seanet.com email address do receive filtering and you may request to have a daily report if you wish.

August 26th 2008-Current - Reconfiguration of Seanet DNS servers

ONGOING

A flaw in the DNS protocol has forced us to reconfigure our DNS servers in order to protect our customers from being directed to malicious websites and having their emails routed through unauthorized servers.  For most of our customer's no action needs to be taken, we have already pointed dynamic DNS requests to our new server.  If you have statically configured DNS on your network, it is vital that you update the settings immediately or risk the consequence of malicious attacks or loss of internet on Monday September 8th.  This action must be completed by Monday September 8th, at this time we are going to disable requests to the unprotected servers.  We have sent an email out to customers' who are using our old DNS servers, which contains a link to a page detailing the action necessary in order to protect your privacy and security on the World Wide Web.

September 22nd 2008 - Updated Spam filter Software--Incoming Server is busy with high load

Resolved

Update: We are experiencing a mail delay of up to two hours related to this update.  We are in contact with the software provider and are working towards a quick resolution.  While connecting to our incoming server you may experience timeouts due to the queue being processed.

We have updated the software which runs our spam filter to the latest versions.  The database is still intact and no emails were lost.  There may be various issues resulting from this upgrade and we appreciate your patience while we resolve them.

August 31st 2008 - New Round of Phishing Emails/Blacklists

Resolved

Update 9/6:  We have changed the IP address of our outgoing mail server in order to bypass the blocks by various providers.  If you are having trouble sending mail you may need to flush your dns cache.

Update 9/4:  Due to a few of our customers replying to the below email with their password, spam has been sent out using those accounts.  This has caused seanet.com to be blacklisted by AOL, msn, craigslist and other domains.  We are currently working to resolve this issue ASAP

A new round of emails purportedly from Seanet, has been sent out asking for passwords.  Seanet will never ask you for your password via email nor delete your email address because you did not respond to an email.  The emails have the subject TERMINATION OF YOUR SEANET.COM ACCOUNT.  If you have sent your password you should call our technical support to change it immediately.

August 11th 2008 - Web Server DDoS Attack

Resolved

UPDATE: The sites which are affected by the DDOS attack have been moved to a new IP address.

At approximately 9:10 on August 11th one of our web servers (control.seanet.com) started experiencing a Distributed Denial of Service attack which floods the server with packets of data.  Because the website under attack is on a shared IP, we had to disable that IP in order to keep most websites up.

August 8th 2008 - Intermittent DSL connectivity Verizon/Quest PPPoE
